Jeanine de Roy van Zuijdewijn is a Researcher at the Centre for Terrorism & Counterterrorism and Research Fellow at the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism - The Hague (ICCT). Jeanine studied International Relations in Historical Perspective at Utrecht University and finished her degree with a thesis on foreign fighters (cum laude). At the CTC, she has continued this research on foreign fighters and translated this into a number of publications.

Besides this focus on foreign fighters, Jeanine is assisting in two projects: countering lone actor terrorism and transitions from military interventions to long-term counterterrorism policies, focusing on Libya (2011-now).  She also helps prof. dr. Edwin Bakker with a MOOC -a massive open online course – called “Terrorism and Counterterrorism: Comparing Theory & Practice” and assists in teaching this course in blended learning format at Leiden University. Furthermore, she is also editorial board member of the Leiden Safety and Security Blog

Publications: With A. Reed and E. Bakker, “Pathways of Foreign Fighters: Four Policy Options and their (Un)intended Consequences”, ICCT Policy Brief (March 2015) [forthcoming]; "The Foreign Fighters' Threat: What History Can(not) Tell Us", Perspectives on Terrorism, vol. 8, no. 5 (October 2014); with E. Bakker, "Returning Western foreign fighters: the case of Afghanistan, Bosnia and Somalia", ICCT Background Note (June 2014), "European Foreign Fighters: Lessons from the Past", The Hague Governance Quarterly (Special Issue, March 2014).
